  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

HELLOO!!
I've been feeling much better and did some soul searching in general :3
Here's the game box that I worked hard on and had to stop myself from doing more with the art bc that wasn't really the focus of the assignment, I just did a quick sketch based off something I was working on.

Here's muh character forward head studies :3 very fun to do tho I would say that the simplier heads like Sora and Riku's was harder for me xD I dunno why, maybe it's because I struggle to draw dudes lol

This is a study of an Artist I follow "Niwa Rhythm" and they are fantastic at hatching and cross hatching, I don't have enough words for how sick I think they are. I also just happened to find out what brush they use, I ended up really loving it.

All great exercices! I see you're keeping an eye out not just for the form, but also for line weight and shading!

of course!
I really like linework, so it's fun to see how others use it to show different elements off.
tho someone's line weight I don't really understand is Eiichiro Oda's, it just seems so random at times. I just chalked it down to, sometimes he needs things to stand off the page more or to show that something is closer to the viewer.

I think that's exactly it! While weight can be used to define some soft shade, distance (foreground vs background), it is also heavily used to highlight importance, as more weight pulls the eye. So you'll usually see the contour with a bit more weight, eyes with more heavy weight (eyelashes), or if something on the panel simply demands attention, like letters, or a specific asset, like a knuckle or arm.

oooo that's guud to know!
gonna keep it in mind :3

5 months later

lol I'M BACK~
took some time to hit the books without the pressure i was putting on myself to post things.
I went more
I also figured out that I was learning too much without actually applying it to my own work so I am doing that now.

but to pick up where I was here was my first portrait study, It didn't turn out how I wanted it to!
I felt it was good and it was pretty but it didn't feel like her. I put it in the discord and was told that eyeballs arent that "bright" and to push my values more and yea, I agree.
I tucked that into muh mind and then simply went next.

next was more portraits just line work. Again I ran into the issue of the person not feeling like the picture, these two were very much like this. After I drew them I stopped and dove into why it felt like that.
The first one was I couldn't get my eyes to look forward, when I would draw the iris's towards the top as if you're looking at someone head on.
and then none of my people felt like they did in the picture.

I started with the eyes and just drew some eyes.

I got very frustrated and tired doing this bc it felt like I was hitting a wall in my brain, like I wasn't learning my problem.

...So I did what any sane person would do in a time of frustration, I walked away and read BL's in bed lol during this one of the guys looked at me straight on, I noticed this and studied it. EVERYTHING CLICKED in my brain. I ran to my sketchbook and just started drawing eyes with what I observed and things started looking alot better.
Here was my findings if you can understand my brains ramblings xD

when I figured it out, I realized that eyeballs have so many intricacies that I never thought of before.

Once I had the eyes more so under my belt, my next hurdle was the feeling of the person. I went to the vibes of the person, I found out that for me I needed to feel the vibe the person gives off and AT A GLANCE tell myself what was unique about the person's face.

tho doing this and messing up at first I told myself "well you messed it up once so the second time you draw it can't be as bad as the first and if it is then you may wanna take a break" lol this made me feel like I could mess up and it's okay not to be perfect.

I also found out that the less I look at someone the better for me lol it forces me to work on only the important parts. so doing that I was able to start filling out the rest of the page.

I turned them anthro for practice incorporating animal ears into hair on the head.
I tried to also practice using the persons features for a character with a different gender, like seen on the bottom.

with all that practice, I felt more comfortable doing my next portrait study.
Here's the notes page where I did it and also studied other things.
lol the notes at the bottom were things I wrote down and then fixed but kept there to allow myself to know that i'm not perfect and didn't draw my little doodle at the bottom like that first try.

and then here's just the study itself.

and with that, I'll probably leave that here for now and then update the rest tomorrow or somethin lol.
