Not really a prompt, I just wanted to draw a weapon. Mechanical objects with clear lines are hard.

A very rough sketch of a ratfolk alchemist. Might use it in a campaign someday. The players won't know what hit them.

This started as a simple clouds drawing, but it seemed a little too empty.

Some more environments in trad. The persepctive of the pavement sort of lost me. But it was rushed, so yeah.

I saw a cloud formation the other day. It looked like a pack of wolves running away from something big. So I drew it.

I haven't posted here in a while. Turns out, I'm not that good at keeping an art blog as my accountability buddy.

Seeing how it's the end of 2023, might try and sum up my art journey so far.

• January - I was doing the 30 days drawing challenge on my tiny Wacom tablet. I struggled so much >_< Still, it was something - 30 days of uninterrupted drawing.

• February - Somewhere around here I started the "1 year drawing" challenge. Although I got only to month 3 or 4, before I dropped it completely due to conflicting schedules. I did learn something about perspective and basics of gesture drawing.

• March - I started the ART School program. I did get through about half of term 1, but then put it on hiatus. I do intend to finish it one day, but it might have to wait. I still see some merit to it - it's a very sprawling program, with a lot to teach. I just found it not that good for complete beginners like me. If I can't even draw a straight line, what am I even doing here? I do realize that my tiny tablet was a part of the problem, but still.

• April - I started Drawabox (still ongoing ). And as part of its dreaded 50% rule, I started drawing for the sake of it. It was rough, for sure, but it got me to experiment with brushes, topics and techniques.

• May - experimenting continues, and I'm slowly trying to incorporate my favorite topics into my art.

• June - my art got noticeably less scratchy. Only took 6 months or so.

• July - I bought a new tablet, Huion Kamvas 13. It felt like learning how to do digital art all over again. But it's so much easier overall when I can see my hands.

• August - I tried to focus a little more on the traditional art.

• September - experimenting continues, this time with shading and reflections. I am still not doing any other art courses than DaB.

• October - Inktober time! While I failed to do all 31 days, I still tried to participate as much as I was able.

• November - I finally got some colored pencils. Still mostly working in trad. Even with a better tablet, trad is just much easier.

• December - I fell out of practice a little when it comes to figure drawing, but that's okay.

In the coming year, I hope to be able to finish Drawabox. After that, who knows? I got ART School on ice, might go back to it.

I started learning how to draw with the goal of one day being able to create my own NPC portraits for a D&D game I was planning to run. And... didn't do a whole lot of that until last December. I'm mostly going off of an old DnD-cember list to generate ideas for characters.

This month was mostly in trad. I did some digital drawings, but nothing to write home about.

I drew a sketch of this Totoro, then I went to do lineart. And -then- I realized I did the whole lineart on the sketch layer.

Here's another character from an RPG campaign I played a while back. Qemri the Firebrand, the only explicitly evil character I made, here seen burning down a warehouse for no particular reason. The warehouse was unoccupied by then.

Another Promptathon went and passed. This one was pet themed. These are my favorite pieces:

I messed up the shading on that palm, because it looked too metallic, so I doubled-down and made an alien landscape

Messing around with animal generator may not have been a good idea. But it was fun to combine various parts into an abomination.

More Pathfinder characters, an elf mesmerist. That thing in his hand is a hypnotic pendulum, because I don't know enough about drawing facial expressions to depict a gaze attack.

I had fun making the mosaic. It's unfinished, it still needs colors, but I kinda like how it looks now.

This post is a little later than usual, because I forgot to upload last week.

The prompt was, a fan that unfolds to a picture of a cat. So I drew one of mine.

Something I drew for the Revenge of the 6th. From memory. So it's Wish-level Star Wars now.

This prompt was "elven diplomat/envoy with a book or a scroll". The face turned out decent, somehow. The hands... not so much.

This was supposed to be a completely different drawing. But I messed up the initial angle of the character, and instead of redrawing it, as may be sensible, I just kept adding stuff until a pose emerged. And I liked the energy of it. The flag is not really representing anything, it's just there.

A sketch of an OC from a story I might one day finish writing. I kinda want to ink it, but I'm scared that I'll mess it up. Might just redraw it later.

I just realized the cast shadow of this thing should probably be in different direction.
As for what it's supposed to be? A ghost of sorts, except completely solid.

Some more world building. This crest was (re)designed based on its written description.
And around it are different variants I tried along with the canon design, which I sort of disagree with because I think it looks goofy.

This is my first ever D&D character. And yes, she is supposed to have no visible eyes. They are glowing as it's a feature from her prestige class.

This month's theme was Star Wars. No particular reason.

Still on a Star Wars bender, so to speak. I tried to design holocrons, a Jedi one and a Sith one respectively.

The shading on the Sith holocron could definitely be better, but I run out of ideas how to fix it.

I forgot what the prompts was about for this one. Something about an outdoor scene, perhaps.

It was October, so just like so many others, I've picked up an art challenge to follow.
I didn't really do it every day, because life happened and because Drawabox is taking up a lot of my time and brainpower.

Anyway, the challenge I chose is called MYSTober. It is created by studio Cyan, the makers of Myst. Its prompts are based on the game Myst and its sequels, and also the entire setting as a whole, so it's going to be very nerdy. You have been warned.

I don't think any of these constitutes a spoiler necessarily, surely nothing that would not be found pretty early in the games. The lore is not mine, it's all found in the games and the companion novels.

MYSTober day 2: "Worship" - The main antagonist from Riven, Gehn, likes to style himself as a creator god of his Ages, as he believes that he creates the world he Writes.
MYSTober day 4: "Mechanism" - This is just a rough recreation of the entrance to one of the Ages on Myst, the Mechanical Age.

MYSTober day 11: "Home" - No home is complete without a cat. This is completely non-canon. It's supposed to be Atrus, relaxing at home with a book. He's never depicted with a cat in the games, but he seems like a cat person.

MYSTober day 16: "Balance" - Did not know what to do for this one, so this is basically supposed to be a rock formation somebody Wrote to balace like this.

MYSTober day 21: "Maintain" - The Guild of Maintainers in ancient D'ni had, among other responsibilities, been tasked with going to newly Written Ages to determine if they are safe for people. They used these bulky EV suits which were designed to be resistant to pretty much anything from vacuum of space to a supernova.

MYSTober day 28: "Instability" - That's supposed to be a rift in reality right in the middle of the sea. Not where it canonically was in Riven.

MYSTober day 31: Book - This is my take on what the Book of Riven might have looked like.
