  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

SETTING: Sci Fi
CHARACTER NAME: Megarah Agon (27, Female)
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: Meg travels using a hover board alongside her robot, Vilhelm. In times of need, the Vilhelm can transform into her powersuit to help handle tricky situations.

STORY:

TLDR: She is the daughter of a genius engineer. Her father went missing and this inspired her to join and excel in the tactical force of the police. After discovering the truth about her father, she left the police and is now a rebel fighting for a cause.

Long version: At a young age, Megarah was already interested in robotics. Growing up a single child and surrounded by the inventions her father creates on his spare time, she quickly learned how to create her own gadgets to help make her life easier.
Combining this knowledge with her love of hoverboarding she started a new revolution within the industry by creating customized and highly precise hover boards that synchronizes with the user.

Her father, the lead engineer for the robotics department of the government, was the best in his field. He pioneered cutting edge technology in creating exoskeleton suits to help in military and manufacturing industries.

One day, an explosion was reported in her father's facility. There were multiple casualties. The bodies were burned unrecognizable and her father was among the dead. A rebel group claimed the attack, saying they were against the creation of exoskeletons in fear that it will be abused in power.

Meg wanted revenge and she enlisted herself in the training program for super soldiers. The trainers were quick to discover her talents and granted her access to her strengths by allowing her to use her own hoverboard and robot within missions. Before her father died, he made an AI to help him with various tasks. Meg transferred this AI to her hover bot and named him after her father's favorite film character, Vilhelm. Vilhelm follows Meg around as her navigator.

With Vilhelm's help, Meg was a force to be reckoned with. She was assigned to the tactical squad of the police department that was aimed at taking down the rebel group against robotics. As she dug deeper into the situation, she discovered the rebel group was planning some sort of cyber attack to wipe out the data of all robotic facilities.

Meg wanted a quick attack on suspected hideouts but the police was still waiting it out. Her suspicions began to rise that the police was hiding something from her because they were still allowing certain illegal trades to take place.

She sneaked into one of the rebels base only to overhear a conversation with a familiar voice. She was certain it was her father's but she could not believe it. Feeling betrayed, she rushed in and followed the rebel into a secret room, there she saw her father was actually alive and well. She felt betrayed. He told her the truth about everything including his clues that led them to meet that night. He fled the Government to prevent more of his discoveries from being used for inhumane missions abroad.

Meg, shaken, decided to leave the Police force and join the rebels. Her father, realizing they were inseparable and still fearing for his daughter's life, modified her robot to transform into an exoskeleton suit to protect her. Now, Meg helps her father fight to undo the damage their technology has done upon the world.

Hi Guys,

Super late but I'll try to do what I can. I seriously need more concept artworks in my portfolio and this contest is the perfect opportunity to create that!

Going to start with thumbs, then 3 line sketches, then 3 color studies, then 1 final. Feel free to comment and C&C.

Nice job, I jealous of your ability to work that much. I think I like no.20 figure the best

8 days later

@august_outsider Thanks! It was hard actually but just think simple shapes always. Prevent yourself from going into details..

Anyway, I got sick with the flu last week and got busy afterwards but here are the studies for the characters I've been doing this week... considering she is a skater.. the 3rd might fit more. What do you think?

I plan to finish the ortho this week so the rest of the time will be for the illustration.

Neat lineart designs, although I'm not sure what design you're trying to go for with this hoverboard user. When I hear hoverboard I think of skateboards and skater punks/skater girls, and I don't get that impression from her in these designs. What does she use her hoverboard for? Does she have a profession? Does she work for an organisation? Is she a lone wolf? Is she a fighter? An engineer?

What exactly is the robot's purpose? Is he like a sentry robot? I read that he transforms into a powersuit for tricky situations, but what are they? Are they for fighting the enemy? Handling heavy duty tasks? To help travel in inhospitable environments?

Sorry I sound like a badgering critic. I can see you've got ideas for your character but I'm not sure how the character, hoverboard and robot connect together as one cohesive character. (Not yet anyway.)

Out of the 3 female designs you have here, the middle one looks the most interesting, but maybe trim off the skirt? So she has a body suit like the first design?

Hope I wasn't harsh, it's all my own opinion. Good luck with your character.

@tj-works Thanks for the feedback! Really helpful. Sorry I did not post the story yet since my writing still sucks. Ill try to post it before the end of the contest though. Don't worry there is a reason for everything.

Basically, she is the daughter of a genius engineer. She was part of the tactical force of the police and is now a rebel fighting for a cause. Her robot is sort of for her protection and navigation help.

I don't see a lot of skating sci fi illustrations. This should be interesting. Good luck!

@Mhnke Thanks! Hope I finish since there's not much time left.. :frowning:
Tried coloring all sketches made so far.. Starting on the final Front and Back now by combining ideas from these three although I'm leaning more to the 3rd look. Ill make sure to add a bit more of a skater feel like what tj mentioned.
