- Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?in24.5k
- Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with youin1.5k

1 month later
I've not posted in some time but I've been working on a lot of the character designs, vehicle designs, environments with some poster designs, and some other bits and bobs. I've got a large chunk of the design work done for this project so will be focusing on getting some more developed work over the coming months. I took some time away from the course to work on a 3d art challenge called Endless Engines. I linked that challenge with my personal project and created an initial basic battle tuk-tuk. This can be an initial tuk-tuk within this project's world if it was to be a game for example the player's starter vehicle. Here are some screen shots of the art challenge.
Here is a small gif of the final animation, I'll look into a way to actually post the video at some other time. All the 3d work was done in Blender, all assets were created from scratch. Materials are all procedural.
Here is a project update.
Environments
Let's start with the map that I've been working on for the world, as this project would be for a game a location would help to start. I have studied some map-making concepts and learned a lot about how certain types of terrane and environments are formed. here are my initial sketches and refined plan with some notes.
I then went into Unreal Engine 5 to play around with creating the map in 3d and some initial ideas for environments, and locations for the races to take place. Using assets from the quixel megascans. (These are not proper renders but some screen grabs as of the moment)
Merchants Point, the bay that leads to the merchant guilds shipyard.
Builders Monolith, some form of location the builders guild has ceremonies?
Mountain Peak, the highly spiritual place on the island where The Tangled Twine followers pray.
The meadows, a possible location where the farmers guild grows their crops.
Mascots
Not settled on this yet but I've been considering doing mascots for each team. Not sure if I want to have a 'pet' for each team's vehicle or create an actual mascot, like you see in a theme park (human suit). I've done some animal sketches as research for each faction and an initial set of costume designs for the mascot suits.
Builders Brotherhood
Farmers Flock
Hagglers Hold
The Tangled Twine
The Wrench Wing
Here are the initial Suit Designs.
Characters
Next characters, still working a lot on these but a bit of an update on the designs. I initially started working on these ages ago, here are the initial designs.
I've since gone back to them after a break and re-working them.
I want to go back to these again and refine the line work and make sure the designs represent the guild they are a part of and add some of that lore into their designs. I will also want to pose the figures and work on the anatomy more. below are some mannequins of some poses.
Vehicles
As all my vehicles are going to be modified tuk tuks I started with a basic blueprint of a tuk tuk, to work out the dimensions.
I then worked on a tone of silhouettes and design iterations, I very much struggled with this process as I'm not super familiar with vehicles. I was not super happy with the designs in the end. (I have a tone more designs but this post is already very large and most of them don't add much at this point)
I think a lot of these vehicles lose the 'tuk-tuk' look and don't feel like they are a part of the same world so I did some quick sketch studies of what I want the tuk-tuk shells to be merged with for each type of vehicle spec.
I then worked on getting the proportions of the silhouettes to work with the style of the vehicle.
This led to making some tweaks, and eventually some complete redesigns.
I'm now more confident with the designs but going to first do some block outs for the vehicles.
Assault
Drifting
Handling
Speed
Tank
That's essentially an update of the past 6 months or so. Always looking for constructive feedback, so feel free to drop add a message. Im somewhat working on everything at once so I don't get stuck on any one thing and get tired of it. I really enjoyed the 3D side of things right now so I'll be focusing on that for now. Hopefully, the next update won't be as long as this one was!
Noiiice!!! that is a lot of progress!!
Everything looks so awesome
i like your mascots
What kind of game is this for?
My fav vehicle is the speed + handling one but the drifting and defense one is also very cool
its so inspiring to see so much work put towards a project
I just finished an MV that took like 200+ hrs across 2 months so i was in chill mode but now you got be hyped up again to create art for my own worlds
Its nice that you mention how long it took you since i tend to think i work slow but sometimes i realize i expect too much out of myself and that what i consider "slow" for myself is actually normal (i also have a full time job and work on my project on the side)
