  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Hey everyone!
I had already started the 1st term and now decided to create a topic to keep track of the progress and hopefully get some constructive criticism and share experiences.
When I started actually trying to study drawing/painting with more discipline, I started by the human head. It allowed me to some progress and motivated me to keep going. Nowdays Im following the Terms orders to establish a good foundation/fundamentals.
Here's my favorite painting I've done (It was a value study, just added the colors for fun cause I have NO IDEIA how to use colors lol).
my english = bad btw

Hello and welcome. I wish you luck on your journey. This portrait is very good so far. You may need a little more light for the right eye so it won't blend with the shadows.

Whoa this is great! You understand the concept very well. This is super well designed as well.

welcome ... the perspective assignment is strong, also love the cats ... ur female portrait is nice too and i think u nailed the color setting, maybe smooth some of the brush strokes a bit more ... hope to see some more good stuff

Thank you very much everyone!!

@creARTive_Paul Oh yeah, I defenitively need to work on the brush strokes. I usually start with hard brushes to define the form better, otherwise I kinda get lost (especially using the airbrush), so I have to work on smoothing it. Thanks for the advice!

Did some perspective studies before starting the last assignments on Human Figure. It was really fun to draw these. I tried to add some basic shading (just to define areas of light/shadow) and one of them I added color (the result was kinda frustrating since I didnt learn how to properly use color yet but ok).

For the next ones I'll try to add more rounded buildings/objects.
Would appreciate any advices/tips!

I'm not familiar with values but these perspective drawings are just so cozy, I love them! Some of my absolute favorites I have seen on here.

great perspectives again, seems u got thing for those ... nice coloring on the second one, would also like to see the upper with color too

Thanks a lot guys! Its been really fun to do some of those exercises.

The past week I tried to get used to split 50/50 of the time I spend drawing between studies and "drawing just for the sake of drawing" (or putting everything that i studied in practice on a full piece) to avoid burnout. So far its working nicely.

For the study part, I practiced some loose sketch portraits. I had 2 things in mind while doing those: 1- draw the face with correct proportions and planes and stablish the light and shadow areas with simple values quickly (About 30-40 minutes each); and 2) work on brushstrokes to play with edges and shapes to make it more interesting (Im trying to follow what Marco Bucci teaches about this subject on his Value/Edges video).

And for the other half of my time, I have a "splash art like" piece that I didnt finished yet and I did a portrait of Raiden Shogun (Genshin Impact). Tried to use some texture and lost/hard edges to bring the focus to more relevant areas of her face. The process was greyscale then added the colors by using different layer blend modes.

Whoah! Great job! I want to study your work! Do you like to leave your line art in and paint it in? Or Pop it on a different layer? I tried both ways this week and am not sure which I like best.

Oh thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it.
I like to keep the line art on a different layer, yeah. Usually I lower the opacity so I can see what Im painting underneath the line.
Then I just use the lasso tool to select and block a local value for the character (or whatever Im painting) on a new layer. After stablishing some of the shadows (the core shadow and reflected light) and some of the light (the core light and halftones) I merge the layers and start painting over the line art.

when ur interested in lighting/ shading/ brush strokes, anthony jones could also be the wright address for u

First, sorry for late reply.
And wow, his work is absolutely incredible. Its definitively a direction I would like to aim at/learn about. I will 100% study his work, thank you a lot for the indication!

he also sells tutorial vids on robotpencil, i think

Its been some time since I posted here.. hehe
Those are some of the studies for perspective and nude figure drawing/gesture drawing.
This one I tried to think about the composition too, not only the perspective (these "things" on the left are supposed to be birds flying towards the viewer lol).

And another one:

I've been doing gesture drawing practices also (30 sec and 60 sec, 20 images each).

And some proportion/basic figure drawing practices:

I feel confortable starting Term 2 now and Im excited to get the basics of anatomy started.

Wow Danilo! These perspective pieces are amazing! I really can't wait to see the final results. Quite impressive.
