  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

And finished!

Meet Ezri, the Literati Succubi!

EDIT:
Just wanted to add a few more images to the top here, but I'll leave my actual Mar. 5th final entry alone. I wasn't quite happy with the final render layouts so I fixed a couple errors and put together few extras shortly after submitting. More at the end of the thread.

Right, so on to the character herself!

For this challenge, I'd like to take on the subject of demons...but perhaps with a bit of a twist. All armies need an R&D department, even an army of darkness. So I'd like to introduce you to my Librarian Demoness, Ezri - succubus book-keeper, corrupted loremaster, and hellion researcher.

Our little hell-spawn here began her life centuries ago as a devoted scholar of lore for the Light, but perhaps got a bit side-tracked somewhere along the way. It is said that those who spend their days in an endless quest for knowledge will inevitably uncover secrets. Delve too deeply into those forbidden secrets, you might find yourself faced with the Dark. And those few who study the Dark for too long... are doomed to become a part of it, corrupted eternally by the journey into the void.

Ezri was totally, definitely, for sure only trying to look up a decent spell to cure insomnia...who knew it would end in demonic corruption?! Of course, the following centuries as a literary succubi may have turned her into a bit of a perv, but she's still a dedicated (if a bit eccentric) researcher. Trust her, she only reads those dirty books for the articles...

I'm not 100% sure on style, but my personal preference will always swing more towards stylization. Guess I'll figure that out as we go.

Yeeeeeaaaah! Super excited to see you do this challenge!

@alemja Thanks Alexandra! I've been really terrible about legit finishing any recent projects, but I'm in-between gigs at the moment...so now I really don't have an excuse.

Onward to base meshes and concepts!

This sounds really interesting. Can't wait to see some sketches or block out.

Alright, the holidays provide a brief distraction, but let's keep the ball rollin'!

I'm not much of a concept artist, but I do like sort things out if I'm not working from someone else's artwork or design. The few consistency issues that can arise from jumping straight to sculpting are worth the extra time to plan ahead. My first stab was way too close to "short-stack" territory. While fun, I wanted longer proportions. I'll likely push her even longer in sculpt

Just some color variations. I'm heading towards the classic red (A), but I thought I'd throw up the other two top contenders from a demonic rainbow of about 15 colors.

And something fun for last. What's a succubus concept for if not to mess around with bewbiez shapes? I'm leaning towards B here...but E makes for such a silly exaggerated look, it may actually win the day. We'll see in 3D.

I need another quick pass on her hair and horns as I'm still not sure where they're landing. But I need to get her body rollin' and get some of the props blocked out.

I'm liking your proportions so far! I think the outfit really leaves a lot to be desired though...
I would take a look gothic/witch/occult inspired fashion that's kinda out-there and conceptual like these places:

I think it can really help you push your design!

With C bewbiez she has chance to became the cutest female character on this competition.. good luck.

Still working on her base body, but in the meantime I took a break to rough out some hair ideas...only to realize I kinda liked what I originally sketched out (A/F). Go figure. E is definitely a keeper though - might try it out in 3D.

@alemja Oooo man, those Instagram accounts have some great reference! I've seen some of those pieces in costuming boards, but the source is fantastic. I think some of the weakness of my design may be more a fault of less than stellar concepting skills. My thought was that much of her 'dress' is actually what little remains of her old librarian outfit, something more akin to a novice mage or book-keeper rather than true fetish-wear. My intention is actually to keep her outfit fairly simplistic so the focus remains on her overall read, but there is certainly room for some detailing. There's already a few things I saw in Sharon Ehman's work that I'd like to add - thank you!

@baby_let_me_hold_you Hah, thanks man! They're all pretty fun honestly - looking forward to seeing how they translate into 3D.

Last 'concept' update, I swear!
Just nailing down a few more of the lingering question marks, but I'm gonna call this done for now. I just don't have the 2D art chops to attempt a full concept. Sculpts coming soon!

Very cool concept and really nice curves!

I look forward to the sculpt. As far as the concept goes, I like it. It looks really cool. Lots of nice details and cool design elements. As far as hair goes, I think E is a nice choice but it seems you went with A already.

lordy lord lord... please forgive my sins......... haha looking awesome!!!!!

So good! The narrow shaped glasses fits her outfit more, I think.
Can't wait to see the sculpt.

Alright, with the holidays done, time to get moving. Block-out took me a bit longer than I would have liked to get her heading in a direction I like, but landing closer here. There's a number of anatomy issues I have to deal with in the torso/chest/back, but I'll through work those while exiting the dynamesh phase. On to hands, wings, and blocking in clothing.

The anatomy fixes shouldn't be to hard. Just need reference. Hopefully you can capture a little more of the curves that you see in the concept, but, I believe in your skills.. Other than that, nice start. The boots/feet looks good so far and l like the shapes of the horns.
Quick question, how did you do the eyelashes? Did you mask then extract?
They look nice. I don't know why, but I'm struggling to get nice eyelashes.

@malcom Thanks mate! I'm definitely in the process of refining her base as much as possible before throwing on her outfit.

I threw together a quick tutorial image for just that question. I should probably do a larger breakdown, but I think this should get you up and running.
- I use the Topology brush and draw out a really quick poly-flow
- Drop my draw size to 1 so it creates a flat plane.
- Split that new plane and generate the 'volume' using Panel Loops.
- After that it's just a matter of smooshing around the lowpoly shape of the eyelash and sub-divide.

Thanks a lot. this should help. Thanks for the tip along with a break down :+1: .

So far so good. You captured her curves from the concept really well. I think the knees can still use some work. They look a bit odd. The hands are nice. Good size but if I had one critique, it would be to soften the form. It's really boxy compared to the rest of the character. I don't know if that is something you planed on doing anyone but other than those 2 things. This is looking solid. Love the eyes and the face. The accessories are looking good so far as well. The gradient for the horns is so good. Love that look. The gold really stands out in a nice way,
Also if I had 1 more thing to say, it would be to work on the abs a bit more. Not sure. It is a stylized character.
