  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

okaaaay, gesture drawing  !!!!
that was fun, it was kinda of therapeutic being kinda loose after the last exercise
well here it is the ones that i had 30 seconds to drawn.

and here it is the 60 seconds one .

I know its kinda hard to say something about this type of exercise, but i can say this, sometimes i did some shapes that was like ''wow that turned out better that i expected'' but i discovered that when a body is upside down i kinda ''bug'' to where should i start drawing :joy: there is one in my 60 second one that its just like wtf happened there hahahahahah :joy:

Know the feeling, it gets better!

Been there, done that! hahahaha as @Julia_J said, it gets better. Just need to put in the work.

And reading your thread here, I really felt your pain on the "reference drawing" part, because I struggled SO MUCH with that, too. What worked for me, in the end, was to find out key markers in the body after limiting the height of the figure (top of the head and feet). I'm talking about knees, elbows, tips of the shoulder (where the colar bone meet the humerus). And I would start finding those out from the chin. After that, it was all basic shapes.

oh yeah it was a big wtf for me to understand how to spot the key markers and use them properly, i visited your post and your journey helped me a lot as well !!!
btw obrigado pela resposta, seu nome me diz que você é brasileiro* ( thanks for your reply, your name tells me that you are Brazilian*)

ohhh this perpective room assigment is fun and super challenging in the beginning !!!
I had the brilliant idea to start with an idea of my own and not to follow Marc's room exemple... boooy oh boy whatever you do dont do stairs on perspective x) hahahahahhaha, just kidding but they took me a good amount of time and effort to do, its a lot of perspectives lines that i need to trace in the VP to make it right !
I had this idea of doing like a loft room, cuz i really like that style and wish to live in one x)!
its still in development but i quite like it.

Looking forward to see your progress with it

Let us know if you need any help or feedback!

So i did some progress on my perspective piece.
I have decided to add a balcony in the floor and on the second level as well, and i started to add a little bit of details.
I stopped when i tried to add some bar chairs to the open kitchen bench cuz it was kinda difficult to do them on perspective, and i am going to try to improve the couch as well.

I saw 2 first videos on second term of the classes, but I feel i still need stronger body proportions to advance to anatomy, i will try to do as Marc says about drawing shapes and deforming them like the example in the beginning of the anatomy class.
But i did a second try (by head this time) on the male and female proportions .

Any feedback is always welcome

Okay i need help.
I realized that I struggle a lot with the shape manipulation of the simple objects in the sense of turning and twisting them from imagination, like Marc shows in the beginning of the first anatomy class, and since he said it was a prerequisite to be good at doing this if you want to continue I feel like I need to improve a lot in that area.
I was trying to do some cubes twisting and it went quite ok, but the cylinders are the ones that i struggle the most when it comes to drawn them twisted and turning and make them feel 3D.
You guys have any good exercises that would help improve that sense of 3D shapes ???

Here is me trying to pick a reference and just try to do a quick sketch braking him in the most simple shapes. and it feels weird idk

Thanks Dangras, it helped me  !
I was doing a lot of shape manipulation as well during some of my free time to help me get better at this part, i did some practice as well back to basics, some over the reference some just looking at them.

I think maybe i should press on to the classes and see how it goes x)

11 months later

Was kinda absent here due to going back working full time as a chef but i am going to try my best to find time to practice more and more, so i did!
I used the Line of Action site do some gesture drawing so i did the class section of 30 minutes with 10 of 30 sec, 5 with 1 minute, 2 with 5 minutes and 1 with 10 minutes.

I really liked how the 10 minute finished out for my level x)

6 months later

Hello folks, testing the waters on the anatomy class here, still haven't found a brush that i am comfortable at shading but i am getting there, gotta memorize those landmarks now, next is mouth and eyes...

26 days later

Okay slowly but surely getting there ....
I find it still kinda hard the shading part specially choosing which brush to use, i am now in between Marcs legendary cube brush and the soft textured round brush on his started brush pack.
I am not super happy with the front face result, the ears became too small and i was lazy to fix it x) but so far so good from what i can do.
Any feedback is welcome

hey there, snakker here, local noob, loving the progress, keep it up!

cheers

2 months later

Love reading through your journey! You've made so much progress with the nude drawing/cylinder assignments! And your gesture looks really good! Keep up the great work!

thanks for the kind words, i find it hard sometimes to push it through with my full time as a chef but those words helps a lot :green_heart:

Here is where i hit the wall of my abilities and found myself copying over Marks example, i think i need to understand better how the shapes of the face works in order to shade correctly, otherwise i feel like i am painting with no structure and then is just adding color for the sake of it with no plan to where to put the colors and the order or importance of the shades, specially in a complex shape like the face.

Ho, I agree it’s hard
I am currently learning this part and I feel learning to see the head in flat planes (like asaro head) and learning to see the bone structure helps a lot to better understand how light interacts with it

Cheers!

but here is Mr.Monkey, a drawing that i got inspired of doing while listening to Gorillaz, i really got surprised on how better i can get if i start using reference for the things in my crazy head x), i say this bcz i never had a proper drawing education so i never used references when i drew, but i can see now it makes the world of a difference in the process, so i am just sharing this bcz i felt proud of the progress of this one.

stay sharp folks :green_heart:
