  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?

  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations.To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color.The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character.My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell.You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs.This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Hiya, for those who are reading, I started this 2 years ago, and well to make this short, I practically gave up on week 4 because I'd gotten lazy or just lost motivation to continue. As time has flown by, a lot has changed in my life, and I've realized what needs to be done as 2024 nears its end, despite it being difficult. As I enter a new year, I am committed to taking my studies seriously in order to pursue my passions. As I write this, I am in week 4 trying to get back on track. I began again from week 1 to make sure I had learned everything this program has to offer. As much as I can, I'll try to keep track of my progress through my art journey.

Though I'm not sure that I'll be able to push through the year, now is better than never and I might as well do it and study, but also have fun with it. Someday, I'd like to share some ideas about my stories, but first I have to learn step by step along the way to get there.

I won't lie, despite sketching out and warming to perspectives, it was a bit difficult to draw my room with certain shapes and other details, so this is the result I got for it

I know it's not perfect but despite a bit of a rush result, I thought I did okay, and I was able to capture my room even if it's not exactly match, anyways, is there I could do improve in perspective, I'd like to hear any suggestion and criticism.

Looking good so far, those are some extreme angle poses you used for foreshortening, really cool. Room looks good but I would have left it at lineart, the airbrush effect going through stuff looks a bit muddy and detracts from the drawing

For sure, one easy way about it would be to use a selection over the plane you want to shade before using a very large airbrush and then apply the shading that way on each surface taking into account how the shadows or lights would form

This week was a bit tougher than I thought, I've been juggling between assignments and other task of what it needs to be done that result turned to be quite the mess, it wasn't until near the end of the week that I started to figure out the type of daily assignments/practice I needed to do.

The most difficult I have to work with is the line art character study, at first, I traced the character directly to the images to see how the line arts work and the I tried to replicate it outside while looking at it side to side, but since still lack practice in proportion and other small area I often have to redraw the picture to the best of my ability, while it did okay, it wasn't bad, but I know it needs more work, although it's not so bad, considering I heard from others that while line art is significant to your artwork, it isn't overall important so as long as the artwork is so good that you won't even notice the line art is imperfect, so I at least don't have to be overly worried about at the moment for now at least.

Anyway, what do you think, and which area is the most challenging to work with?

Well, in the end it all really depends. I think when you are trying to improve your line work, you should put a lot of effort into each line, simplifying and ghosting each line, taking your time etc, as for some applications your use of line can be a big deal, especially if the lineart will be prominent in the end result (like inked comics for example). It also helps when sketching and doing gestures to improve your line quality and confidence.

That said, you can totally "hide" bad line quality, you can be as sketchy, chaotic and messy as you want to be before pouring buckets of values or colors in your preferred rendering method, essentially vanishing any remnants of line art if that is how you work, in fact, some artists paint directly, entirely foregoing lineart for the most part. That's not to say it's right or wrong, but when learning I think it's best to do your best at any given thing you do, avoid being sloppy at all times, and make each mark meaningful and as easy to read as possible, both to do the exercise of understanding what you're doing at a pace your brain can actually comprehend and also to constantly reinforce concepts you are learning

It's hard to say what's most challenging. It's so subjective for me, but I remember struggling hard to do gestures when starting out

It took much more time than I expected to draw out the background, combining perspective with the way it's drawn out, which was difficult, but that's to be expected. I tried to copy and study a scene around Tokyo station, although the details were a little rough because of the low resolution/quality, and some parts were blurred out.

Apart from the background, the other exercises are easier for me to grasp, such as shapes, but I could use some more practice to develop my skills and adapt my drawings to them. Overall, things are going pretty well. I only need to work on perspective/background, so I will keep working on it along with other fundamentals until I get it right.

As Week 7 comes to an end, I'm taking the opportunity to practice some of the things I really enjoy, such as drawing shapes in rotation and drawing poses, in addition to reading books on how to improve on them. (For posing, I read a book called Figure Drawing: Design and Invention, by Michael Hampton).

As far as the quality goes, I think it's pretty good. I know there are a few omissions here and there, but it's good to see I am getting better each week. I also could have touched on perspective and environment, but I didn't want to get too overwhelmed.

Nevertheless, I am pleased with how things are moving forward, so I will continue to do so.:hand:

In Week 8, I have been making steady progress as usual. However, I do feel slightly sluggish due to mental exhaustion from work this week, but I have managed to complete my assignments and read and watch videos about perspective and background in addition to working on my assignments.

However, I still need more practice and time with the details as I slowly adjust to the perspective, and I've also learned how to copy backgrounds, which I think has helped me better understand how it's drawn, even though some are traced, but I still haven't mastered drawing backgrounds well despite having references.

The first term of my studies has ended and I'm starting term 2 next week, and I feel more determined than ever to succeed no matter how little has been acknowledged or improved in my accomplishments. Whatever the case may be, I look forward to improving even further! :hand:

Week 1 Term 2:
In all honesty, this week was a bit more challenging than I anticipated. In spite of being able to adjust to the study happening around me, I encountered difficulties catching up with my studies. Inkscape and Photopea were the alternatives to Photoshop for me, so I used them to draw and use tools after watching those lecture videos.

On the other hand, this assignment took me two days to get a good grasp of painting from the shades and the lighting of the portrait while using a mirror and my existing Oc to draw this out.

Overall, I could use more practice when it comes to using more tools. While it could help me in the long run, it's up to me how to use it properly and add it to my arsenal to draw out great artwork and animation. On the artistic side, I'm feeling a bit confident about how my progress goes on drawing out characters up close, just to practice more on lighting and later on their poses, construction, etc.
