  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Hey all!

I go by Krafts these days (yes, original I know).

Bear with me because I am challenged when it comes to forums (hopefully I am doing this correctly). Also I decided that after three months on term 1, I should start posting something (the thing I conveniently ignore on Marc's suggested study schedule).

Not much for intros, but put simply: I am your doodling/hobbyist artist that decided to level up from the horror stick figures and occasionally well-drawn art she has to hopefully make enough progress on a professional level.
I dropped art for a VERY long time due to personal reasons and well, after learning a tough lesson, I am now deciding to focus on it 100% now.

I also have these panel scripts for an amerimanga/stylized comic that I have been jolting down for about 2ish years or so and am looking to create something out of it (even if it just concepts or illustrations for fun).

So overall:
- I am challenged on social media updates and forums so....hopefully I am going to cure that habit.
- I am going to go as intense as I physically can on the art studies because I would like to reach a self-taught pro level (cartoon/stylized ideals mostly). With hard work and determination, one can hope, right?
- I have some wips and the lot but I am also very shy and anxious about posting them online and am very very slow in drawing.

Now that the block of text is done: onto the assignments!

Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Okay so I believe replying is the correct way to work this...Right? Right (she says).

Anyways...
I am going to post the pen control first and the rest of the Photoshop assignments I did. I have yet to touch the Liquify ones yet.

Next is the Photoshop Pictures Mix assignment.
And yes that is a "dream house" to me: being a witch in the middle of nowhere with cats, magic, and a passion to bore travelers with tea, cookies, and mundane tales about dragons stealing plushies.

And the Apples Assignment

I have never used Photoshop before so this took a while but never again will I underestimate the power of this program.

Finally the adjustment assignment.

Which I think I can do better on but unsure how yet.

Also I figured that I can post multiple pictures in one forum post .
That's it for Photoshop (for now).

I'll add the anatomy term 1 assignments later in the day, because sleep is needed.

Heyho and welcome, Krafts!
Thanks for sharing your introduction and first assignement with us!
Really excited to see another motivated new forum member around!
Cheers,
Mau

Thanks Mau !
Looking forward to the rest of the process and hope I can contribute somehow.

Allrighty so posting my anatomy Term 1 assignments (ranges from beginning of May to beginning of August). I am only posting the works where I think progress is happening over time. The rest I usually erase because hard drive space is limited and papers will be everywhere.

So for start, this is how I did (pre-artschool) my tracings over reference so Marc's method wasn't unfamiliar.

Then I followed his "simplified" forms traced over references with the cylinder practice (not included).
After about 1-2 weeks of this and cylinders, I felt comfortable moving along to the "routine" practice : trace, reference, full figure study, with gestures implemented as much as possible.

So the TRF (trace, reference, figure) routine from May to today (August 12th):

Here is my progress for tracing and referenced figures daily exercises (about one week interval between each 2 pictures starting from the top)

And here are my full figure studies . I was playing around with smudging around June since it felt a lot like pencil sketching and I also wanted to incorporate light studies but I heard that that should be avoided?
I was also relying on the grid method before dropping it for only measurement in June.

End of July Progress Figure study (at this point I use construction lines and measurements only).

And this one is the latest I chose in week 1 of August for progress assessment.

So that's the whole shabang on the full figure studies over a 3 months span.

Also my proportions exercises and gesture studies:

For proportion: it went from no confidence, keep everything as similar to Marc's video as possible (it's not like I don't know where stuff goes in general but anatomy scares me) to okay do this your way, via memory and your simplified skeleton.

Therefore how it went:
Versus how it is going:
Now I can spot a lot of mistakes still (like the poor dude's legs for example) but I am going to say that I am happy that I could do this from memory and "accept" the risks of mistakes. I don't have much confidence and am my own worst harsh critic when it comes to my learning process so this was a huge boost in confidence.

Finally Gesture Drawings:
I needed a min and panicked constantly all while resisting the strong urge to erase (the urge won several times).

June's work got lost because it was on paper...so July it is. I know I wrote 1min but I was fluctuating between 1min and 45 secs. Much more comfortable.
I am now in August and decreasing the time. So these are at 45secs and 30secs respectively. Always trying to focus on the flow and action more than the rest.

And that is it for now ! Hopefully it wasn't too much of a drag.
I may (or may not) be posting Perspective Term 1 (which has been and still is a challenge for me :sob:, ...drawabox helps...I think.).

Otherwise I am considering moving to Term 2 on the anatomy part. Let me know what you all think.
