  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Hi everyone!
I'm creating this thread to post my progress in. I'm 1/3 into Term 1 rn :innocent:

Also, I'm always down for sharing feedback and making friends! I look forward to this experience with all of you~

There are 56 replies with an estimated read time of 7 minutes.

Hi Lucretia! Welcome to the forums! I hope you find what you are looking for.

So far, so good
Btw, did you guys ever have a nightmare that, in retrospect, you found kind of cool? That's me with gesture drawing. Holy hell, what a workout!! I definitely need to practice that more. Drawing/erasing/drawing/erasing/drawing has been a devious loop I've been stuck in for far too long xD

Also, I've been drawing proportions wrong all my life. Turns out, I make the heads too big and the legs too long. Something concrete to work on - awesomesauce!

Looking very good so far
Good proportions on the figure drawing and good use of overlap. Your forms on figures are looking good as well, only one I feel off is the first lady on the left, the head cube isn’t oriented the same direction as the head (brow line helps) and the thorax cube I am not so sure

Keep it up!

Hey Snakker! Yeah, now that I'm looking at it a second time, you're absolutely right. Way too narrow; thanks for pointing it out!
Thanks for commenting overall; the engagement in this place is awesome, I already love it here! :joy:

Hey, welcome to the forums, great job so far, gesture is a hard thing, i just realized that has been some time since i did one, so i'm sure when i do then again they gonna suck XD looking foward to see your progress tho

Oh yeah. They suck a bit like a slot machine in the casino, don't they? Playing it is an absolute nightmare but you can't help but feed it money and pull the lever again and again :joy: Thanks, btw! It's great to be here and nourish some skills alongside all of you~

Hi Lockenheim! That is such a heartwarming welcome - thank you! I hope you find what you're looking for too. Here and everywhere else for that matter. :relaxed:

welcome to the forums!

gesture can be hard, but foreshortening gestures are even harder XD

I'm animating something rn and the foreshortening frames are so hard XDDD i spend like 2.5 hrs on each frame haha

personally for me, background and environment art is the hardest but im working on getting better at it

Hey Mitsuki Y.; thanks, glad to be here!
You animate?! Cool, that's my ultimate goal too! I'm trying to improve my art first in hopes that I'll get better and faster... and not so dependent on reference in the long run  Background and environment, ugh. I feel you. Good luck with your foreshortening poses! You got this, I'm sure!

Haha thanks! yep animating is fun but it takes a long time.. i work full time so the time i have less time to spend on art :3 a 3-4 second animation can take up to 70 hours for me to draw, which usually spans across 3-4 weeks.

Its a lot of work but its super worth it in the long run imo - im currently plotbuilding/worldbuilding/characterbuilding a story that i've been working on for a while - it spans across 2 worlds, with 5 main characters, 100's of side characters with about 24 story arcs and i'm planning to turn it into a comic tho that might take a while since i still have a long way to go and i also want to make 6 animated trailers for it (1 main plot trailer and 1 for each mc's individual piece/view/perspective of the story)

Good luck on your art journey as well!! excited to see more of your art

If you wanna check out my animations, i post them on youtube (tho the recent vids is more of me making music loool) https://www.youtube.com/@mitsukiyouko/videos

i do post my art on ig: https://www.instagram.com/mitsuki_youko/

and here's a website i coded for my story (first time coding a website and it came out great though there is a lot of unfinished art haha ill get those filled out eventually  ): https://mitsukiyouko555.github.io/hackwebcomic/

Excuse me kind sirs,
can I interest you in the church of Clip Studio Paint? We have perspective rulers and vector layers.
Don’t get me wrong, I know PS is dope but I love this software with a passion!!
That being said, here’s the first assignment of the second lesson in term 1! I initially wanted to damage this bathroom a little more… bust some of the tiles to give it a more abandoned and creepy feeling; add highlights and stuffs, as well as creepy shadows and the like, but I concluded, the main point of the lesson is achieved - therefore, on to the 2 point perspective view! Eep!
The first outline was excruciating but after drawing the sinks, the rest was hella fun! I mean, please mark your calendars! Me having fun drawing backgrounds is unheard of! xD Also, please ignore the missing drainage hole for the second sink. I freeballed a lot of things in this image...

2 months later

Ok, sooo.... I sort of, kind of, pretty much finished Term 2 without actually uploading anything on here. Saw-ree... I feel like most of these are half-assed, but I did learn a lot! I now understood the theory behind everything so why won't my hands just listen? Grr.
Drawing backgrounds is a pain, ain't it...and the anatomy of the head is a doozy HOWEVER I've been using CSP for the past, what, 6 yrs? and had no idea that gradient maps exist. Please excuse me while I sink in my shame but gradient maps upped my color game a lot! God, they're so much fun...Anyway, so far so good! I'll keep practicing annnnd onto Term 3!!!
