  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Pretty gross thumbnails at the same time, welcome aboard with the new sketchbook.

Thanks everyone! Here is the progress from thumbnails to face shots.

C&C are welcome

Experimenting with keyshot, photoshop and overpaint. I think it may have turned out too weird, however I stood true to my research and reference to counter that. I’ll let you be the judge, comments welcome.

Sick stuff dude, the overpaints seem painterly and nice.
The only thing i that seemed a bit off to me is the hair (?) lines on the monster portrait, otherwise it's really solid.

@gardfinvik - thanks dude, you're nice. I was looking at that portrait today and I felt the same thing, I guess if I had more rhythm to the hair it'll look better and more natural.

Hologram sci fi advertisement + age and decay variations. As always, critic is warmly welcome.

Another one, a simple(-er) approach.

The benches seem to be a bit too far back? People would be hitting their heads on the ceiling

Cool futuristic concepts by the way. Are you planning on making an entire world? :open_mouth:

Good point, they are a bit too far back, and I might continue these designs, yes, I want to do something borderlands style.

Thanks man!!

And hello ladies and gents.
I've been wanting to post artwork here, I really am, but due to NDA's, I can't show the work I've been freelancing for, it's a shame, because its the best environment work I've done to date.
Meanwhile, i've been running a personal project, my version of Neuromancer novel by William Gibson, which is such a wonderful read, the story is so intense...
--
Here are a few thumbnails. Looking back to the first vehicle thumbnails I did a year ago, I see how laughable they were back then, they had a lot of function errors and process mistakes too... but I was learning perspective at that time, so I was trying to solve multiple problems at once. (that's so me.)
I did these while experimenting new processes. If it was for a client, I wouldn't start flat out 2D, but maybe trace and draw/photo manipulate on top of a base car.. however, since these are personal and experimental workflows, I it doesn't hurt to take the longer route, as long as I'm growing my skill-set.

--

This time I took some time looking at real cars, car advancements, DARPA and Lexus Int for reference both on aestethics side and the function side. I was inspired by Lexus hover skateboard for the tech at first, but I really liked the wheel car the best. I hope I have time to continue this project.

Hey doods.
I've recently started to try to breath a bit more of me into my character design and other designs.
When I was younger, I had dreadlocks at some point, skateboarded with punks, then runned with ravers, and many others. I always liked the subcultures and small urban societies, hippies, punks, grunge, metalheads... I think there is a lot of graphic power in these and a lot of variety to draw from. I'm mixing what I lived with what I like, so I thought about making a cyber+punk set of character designs that could go in a Scifi shooter.

It's ultimately a change of pace, as ever since I got into concept art I've been drawing what other people think it's good, our job is to please and to be marketable, however, I rather appeal to a smaller and stylized audience and show I'm having fun doing these than being a corporate wolf, if that was my thing, I'd would rather take a job as banker instead. I guess I just don't want to be like everyone else, and I don't have to.

So, yes, there is a lot of me in these

Ultimately I'll have to revisit the graphic design of some of these, presentation could be better, I guess, but hey, I'm putting the 'sketch' in book.

Thanks @luckyyy ! It's nice of you to think so!

Here are a few more sketches that I did on my free time. I've recently started a new job as concept artist but I draw totally different stuff, I like it nonetheless!

These are for a assassin/scout class. Once again, inspired by subculture tribes.
I intend to take these up to a better render, sculpt in Zbrush, do some paintovers, experiment with workflows I had from 3D design to prototype textures quickly.
Inspired by Open bionics, Darpa and other robotics I've been following for a while.

Thanks for looking, have an awesome week, everyone.

Here are some WIPs!
I'm sadly not able to commit to these as much as I'd like, (time-wise) because I've gotten a job as concept artist in May, my time is limited when it comes to personal work. :frowning:

Nonetheless, I am pushing it as far as I can and not having that as an excuse not to keep shooting at it.I'm learning a ton off the record, I had to learn how to model hair with fibermesh, cards, Xgen, so much stuff, that I doubt that I will use in a regular base, but knowledge is power, right?

For now, here is a rough sculpt, I was going to show the rest of the body, but it's not as showable as the bust, there is a lot of details that I need to pinch together from the neck down, a lot of frankensteining to do before I show it all... I just wish a day had more than 24 hours... And I think I must have started over like 3 or 4 times on this sculpt all the while cursing Zbrush and everything that is digital...Anyway, after this chick is done, I'm hoping to do a couple of faster ones, with what I learned so far and turn them into a case study, as with this one I'm focusing more of design language, while the next I intend to explore other things, like storytelling, and really go home with the storytelling, as I feel that a image that tells a great story will always overshadow one that is synthetical well made, with all design theories there.
We'll see.

I feel there is a long way to go until this is done, but sharing WIPs is crucial for me, it helps me get a sense of what I'm doing, who I am exposing myself to.

Hey man! I'm new so I haven't kept up with anyone until now but from what i'm seeing in your thread you have serious dedication so keep at it! You're doing great!!

As far as the render goes I like the girl itself, I haven't gone super far into 3d modeling myself but from what I see it feels like the metal of her face is a little off putting. The creases between plates is fine and all but the specific reflectiveness of the surface feels like it might be too much. That might just be my preference though! I'm also not sure how much work it would be to change that lol

Hey! Thanks for stopping by and throwing in your opinion  the reflectiveness you mention is a fact and I won't keep it in the main render, this one is just to show the form, something between a WIP update and a teaser, mostly me just playing with the render engine, the final will have a better material definition, certainly won't be all black metal plated
But I agree, maybe I should have chosen a different material to show the form better

No no you're fine! Since it's just for showing form I think it works fine than!

Thanks for the approval! ahah, I can't wait to get into color, but I'm liking to share some WIPS.

About the concept... to be honest, I restarted around 3 or 4 times, I just wasn't getting the sculpt right, the process was messy and bruteforced, so I reset the sculpt until I got it to a stage that it sucked less.

All the time while working I was cursing myself for not doing this in Maya, which is the software I'm more comfortable on, but I did it, powered through and used only Zbrush for this... the reason being that process is more important than outcome, (for a creative anyway, not a client), if you rely on outcome, you already know where you'll get at, but if you focus on process, you may not know where it'll take you, but you know you want to be there!

Here's an arm.
It's also another part of the mech that I'm not shy to show, but it's still gonna get improved later on. There are somethings in it still bugging me.
