  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Allow me to introduce myself; My name is Nodier, and I finally decided to start my Art journey. I started to draw at a very young age during Elementary School, and did a lot of pencil drawings of my favorite video game characters. I drew a lot until about my later Middle School years, and then fell off this course by High School. As I got older, my interests changed and I eventually completely stopped drawing/Art all together in my 20s. I never took any classes, or took Art any serious for many years. In 2020, I picked up the pencil again and started to draw cars. I mean, very casually, and I was terrible at it! But little by little, as I improved, I started to love drawing again.

Fast forward till today, I've been practicing a lot more than just cars; I've been watching videos on how to draw portraits, posture, anatomy, etc. and started to learn digital.

So why am I here? Why am I doing this? Well, I hope I can learn to become a great artist and possibly have a career in this field. So many young artists have found success after college, and became skilled at their craft by their 20s. So now here I am after just turning 30, and I'm starting from scratch. Oh well, got to start some where, right?

I look forward to learning as much as possible with ART School and connect with others who have a passion for art. I will try to update this forum as much as possible throughout my journey.

Don't worry. You arn't the oldest here by along shot. Welcome to the forums! I look forward to seeing your progress!

Thank you, much appreciated!

Welcome to the journey. Pleasure to be on the road with you.

Not sure how often I should be posting but I’ve gotten through the Photoshop portion of Term 1. I gotta say it’s been difficult and frustrating to learn photoshop coming with no photoshop experience. Maybe because I used a mouse and keyboard for all these assignments? Not sure what everyone else is using. Nonetheless it’s been a lot of fun to actually figure out how the program works.

The first assignment was very fun. But boy of boy was the beach scene difficult. I ended up having to manually change certain parts of the image to match the colors (like the tank on the left, and her knee is sunlight for example)

Creating the dream castle was an interesting learning experience. The idea was to create an out-of-focus castle in the background, but I might have overdone the blur in some areas. Regardless It was the first time I’ve ever done this and I’m happy with the result.

Adding apples looked like it was going to be the easiest of the assignments, but I was wrong! In the end I ended up spending more time on this one than any other assignment. I really wanted the apples to look as realistic as possible (to the best of my ability).

This next one is not my favorite, maybe I could have done more? Not sure lol the poor guy on the right looks like he’s suffering from who knows what.

I had a great laugh liquifying Mr.Beans face into Dwayne Johnson. 10/10. No regrets.

So that’s all for now. I’ll keep posting as I get further into Term 1, and I’m looking forward to learning more!

I like the blurry castle, it gives it a dreamy feel!

lol I can tell you had a lot of fun with liquify, I like Mr. RockBean (BeanRock?)

Mr. BeanRock! That’s the one lol

Thanks for the comment!

You did a really nice job with these assigments. Photoshop was really difficult to me to learn as well. I also started with a mouse when I was learning it. Keep it up keep learning! It looks like you have a lot of the hard parts down. In terms of posting, Personally I post once per week, but others post more or less frequently. These faces came out so good! Especially the suffering face! Really fantastic job!

It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve last post and I wanted to share what some of my progress. Below you’ll see some of the daily practice regarding drawing the ideal male and female, 30 second and 1 minute gesture drawing, and some of the perspective assignments (my room will be uploaded at a later time). There’s too many drawings to upload so I will show some of the early ones compared to the most recent ones.

Here’s my first time drawing the male and female using the 8-head proportion grid. Then below it is a more recent one ( I still struggle with hands, so I’d rather not render them in to avoid building bad habits)

Next comes the 30 second and 1 minute gesture drawings. I have a ton of these as separate images. I’m not sure how Marc was able to draw so many on a huge digital canvas; I assume it’s Photoshop on the PC. I bounce between Procreate and Photoshop on the iPad.

Day 1: 30 second gesture practice

Day 1: 1 minute gesture practice

Most recent 30 second gesture practice

Most recent 1 minute gesture practice

I recently started the perspective assignment, but have not yet started creating my room.

Felt like adding color and value to the 2-point perspective boxes to further visualize them in 3D space.

Well, this is all I have to show for right now. I gotta say, this has been a pleasant experience for me. I love getting my daily practices done, and I really enjoy gesture drawings. So far I’ve been able to apply everything I’ve learned in Term 1 onto my personal drawings and have seen noticeable improvement. Looking forward to learning more!

This here is the dining room with a mediaeval spin to it. The idea was to re-create the room into a war tent. I added some values to show where the light source(s) is coming from. The more I look at this, the more something is throwing me off, and I’m not sure what it is. Feel free to leave your thoughts and critiques!

Edit: fixed the dining room photo
