Hello guys,
as you can see I drew a fanart of a Webtoon character. I've been drawing character fanarts or OCs for 2 years now and I am in need of some help because there are things I am still unsure about and don't know how to add these or what to change exactly.
The things that are bugging me:
- the overall drawing doesn't feel "alive". It feels flat, as if I just put layers over layers, objects over objects which I technically did, but art I see on social media always have "feelings and a sense of depth" in it
- are the colors for the base and shadows fine? I feel like my colors are very saturated
- the placement for shadows. Is there a tip how and where to place them because I do it by intuition. I know it should be at places where the light source doesn't hit, but it's still hard to grasp
- for the color harmony I chose yellow and purple/blue (complementary) for the whole picture. I then struggled to choose the colors for the girl and the room. If my harmony is yellow and purple, so must the whole color palette of the girl be yellowish and the whole room purplish? But then the room looks muddy, monoton and boring and the color choice for the girl is limited. I mean her hair is black but it blends too much with the background..
- I learned the rule warm shadows with cool light and vise versa, and saturated shadow with non saturated light and vise versa. When and how do I apply it. I always pick darker shades like this: in the Color Square I go diagonally from top left to bottom right. That's it. I don't consider the rules.
If there are other things that should be improved, please don't hesitate to tell me.
Therefore I would really appreciate it if anyone would help me.
Thank you in advance.
