  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

There's a lot to take in and get used to. I need so much patience to deal with the interface and find what I need. It's really hard to repeat something that you've done. Like I made this barrel a couple of days ago and was able to get the extraction to work, but I tried it again today and I couldn't get it to work. When I messed with the settings the program crashed >:frowning: I feel like once I get through these exercises it'll be easy to work with the program but there's a large learning curve to get through.

Here's my initial clothed figure exercises. I've really learned a lot about folds from these videos! They seemed so random and elusive before, but I think Marc did a nice job of breaking everything down. I still have a lot of work to do but I'm definitely improving. Constructive criticism always welcome!

Fantastic work as always. Especially the clothes. But I had this moment today. I have other art classes outside of here so I try to mesh them all together. I'm working on the smudge tool with it and it was an eye opener for me. It's a multipurpose tool. So I would suggest at some point do what I did and draw something for yourself only, but use what you learned. It will solidify what you know to second nature and add more knowledge. I'll post what I did when I finish it within the week. But try that and post it here, it's a mind blower.

Yeah I totally agree, the smudge tool is awesome! I'm trying to find a good balance between smudge and hard edges. I think working on personal work is a great way to apply everything too. I like randomly making things here and there, but while I'm learning I want to make sure my practice outweighs finished paintings.

Nice stuff! Clothes are very good and the muscles, too. Only thing I see which doesn't look like it's working are the obliques in the frontview and the gesture in the sideview one. I think the sillouette woud curve in faster and make the T-shape more dominant and the spine is a curve which you can especially see in the sideview and the latissimus usually don't make the seeable S-curve disappear that much. On the biceps, I watched you're pictures multiple times, but I did not catch any picture with a drawn/painted biceps, is there one?
Good work overall, keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback! Especially about the back curve, I didn't even think about that.
He didn't go over biceps yet so I didn't include them.

I neglected studying and3dcough to work on a mini comic for a contest. Anyone else watch Forneverworld? Anyway, I applied what I learned from the class about anatomy and clothing so far! Critique always welcomed.
Also really excited about live streams with Marc in the future, hopefully I can make a few of them when they come around.

I see that good work! The seratis (I'm confident I spelled wrong) on the sides I'm struggling to picture right without looking at the diagram. And the dress looks spot on too.

@BemezmorizeD Great stuff! Your lines on the anatomy diagram are kind of wobbly though. Other than that it's great except for the serratus, I can't quite read it... The clothing study is neat, you may want to consider to go darker in the occlusion shadows.

@patmast @ristarsonata
Thanks for the feedback! Maybe I'll go over my my sketches to get a better read next time. I totally agree with the occlusion shadows. I feel like I need to work on contrast in general because my highlights are lacking too.

Here's the painted version of my study and the reference image. I seems like I missed a lot in my last torso paintings. I'll be doing this again on the skeletons like before.
After the painting I did a test to see how much I remembered. It turned out a little messy, but I think it helped with showing what I need to improve on and helped solidify where everything goes.

Also, make sure you back up your files and usb drives  I lost 10 years worth of files being neglectful. I heard from someone that if your files aren't in at least 3 different places then they don't exist. I thought it was good advice but I didn't take it as seriously as I should've. Very grateful I can re-download the lessons from here.

I still haven't reached Term 3 but so far I like what I see! Once I start investing more time in Art School (I work at my town's movie theater and we will close for the summer holiday in a couple of weeks) I will be able to help even more.

P.S.1 Love the painting with the skirt!

P.S.2 Regarding your comic page. Try to change the panels layout. They are all square and symmetrical. Try more dynamic shapes. Use those panels to tell your story even better!

Still trying to get my life together after moving. I can't believe it's been over a month since I posted T.T
@3dreamerevans Thanks for the comment! I made it for Instagram so I stuck with basic squares, but I'll remember that for another project!

I did some studies from Instagram photos while waiting on furniture to be delivered. I'm not too happy with how the woman turned out :stuck_out_tongue:

Can't wait for the live stream!
