Hello, my name is William. I have always been interested in art from a young age, and decided to get serious about practicing and improving around 2 years ago. I have tried going off of youtube videos alone but I think I needed more structure in my practice, so that is why I enrolled in this course. I am really looking forward to progressing and improving with everyone else here!
Term 1, week 1, assignment 2
I worked on the image adjustments homework last weekend, today I am going to start week 2. I think I did ok on everything last time except for the last one, I just couldn't get the colour and light of the skin right.
Welcome to the forums!
you might need a bit more red in there i think? give that a try and see what that does
thanks man, I might give it a try
day 1 of week 2, practicing drawing over reference figures. I have done this before a whole lot, though I will say the more structured approach helped. I tried using squares as well as circles for the skeletons depending on what seemed to work better at the time.
Welcome aboard! looking good so far!
I like your use of cubes for these exercises, I feel you are nailing the directions the masses are facing quite well and that can be hard sometimes to get right
cheers
Nice work. I definitely recommend entering our current art challenge this week. This week is a focus on gesture drawing. Link here for more info on it. Next week will be about construction. So the things you are doing right now will basically be what the weeklies are covering.
cool, how do I upload pieces of gesture drawing to the competition?
You will post your gestures here. We are even providing free professional reference's for the month. These were donated by CB sellers. You'll find to the link to that set on the topic post.
ah ok thanks, I will post what I make here. Just let me know if I am doing anything wrong
speaking of, tonight's work on the daily figure assignment. The main thing I am worried about is the placement of the hip joints, and the shape of the torso. Should I try and follow the contour, or just go for the overall shape of the ribcage?
another go of figure practice, I think I need to work on the placement of the hip joints.
My first attempt of the combining images assignment. I think it went ok? I had some trouble with trying to mask things like colour on the layers, even though I was able to use the filter mask pretty alright.
Today's round of figure studies, I am looking forward to moving on. I am going to try and polish off the figure drawing video this weekend, as I have been busy lately.
ok so, finishing up assignments in the selections/liquify/healstamp group. I did the apples and alien assignment because as far as I know Krita doesn't have the sort of healing brush needed to do the assignment where you make the young man look old. I think I did alright on the apples assignment, though the selections were a little choppy if you look closer. The alien one took a while because I didn't know where to find it on Krita until Eegan (thank you!) on the discord showed me.
first day of gesture drawing, 30 minutes, 1 minute each. It felt a bit choppy as I have never done gesture on digital before, and having 2 tabs open was a bit awkward.
So the first attempt of copying character line art was of The Goon, by Eric Powell. The Goon is one of my favorite comic book characters, so I felt I should try and give it a go. It was harder than I anticipated though, as getting the shapes and proportions and details was a lot harder than just using a reference for something else. I will try and do better on the next one.
Today's gesture drawing, I'll also start working on the lineart copy #2 tonight.
character copy #2, I am not as happy with this one because the shadows look off. I'll try and use a more structured approach for the next one.
Character copy #3, this one was Door from the youtube series "Hunter: The Parenting". He is my favourite character from the series, and I like how this one came out. I used a more structured approach to it, and I think the reference was simple enough for my skill level that it came out looking half ok.
