Today's round of figure studies, I am looking forward to moving on. I am going to try and polish off the figure drawing video this weekend, as I have been busy lately.
ok so, finishing up assignments in the selections/liquify/healstamp group. I did the apples and alien assignment because as far as I know Krita doesn't have the sort of healing brush needed to do the assignment where you make the young man look old. I think I did alright on the apples assignment, though the selections were a little choppy if you look closer. The alien one took a while because I didn't know where to find it on Krita until Eegan (thank you!) on the discord showed me.
first day of gesture drawing, 30 minutes, 1 minute each. It felt a bit choppy as I have never done gesture on digital before, and having 2 tabs open was a bit awkward.
So the first attempt of copying character line art was of The Goon, by Eric Powell. The Goon is one of my favorite comic book characters, so I felt I should try and give it a go. It was harder than I anticipated though, as getting the shapes and proportions and details was a lot harder than just using a reference for something else. I will try and do better on the next one.
Today's gesture drawing, I'll also start working on the lineart copy #2 tonight.
character copy #2, I am not as happy with this one because the shadows look off. I'll try and use a more structured approach for the next one.
Character copy #3, this one was Door from the youtube series "Hunter: The Parenting". He is my favourite character from the series, and I like how this one came out. I used a more structured approach to it, and I think the reference was simple enough for my skill level that it came out looking half ok.
Nice foreshortening work!
thanks man
copy number 4, the Bounty Hunter from Darkest Dungeon. Though I like the character, he was a lot harder than the last one and I had a tougher time trying to make it look accurate. For the last one I will try and choose something a bit more simple.
today and last nights gesture drawings (30 minutes, 30 seconds each), I think the ones in red came out pretty ok
Lineart copy number 5, of Dismas from Darkest Dungeon. Though I'm not super happy with the way it turned out, I am still glad that I was able to make it through week 3, and look forward to going into week 4.
Eyyy keep up the good work
dis be lookin cool!
thanks bro, I hope I am able to keep up with the week 4 workload lol
first day of week 4, the first go at the bodily proportions exercise. Though I have done bodies before a fair bit trying to do it like this messed me up, especially the shape of the torso and the hands in particular.
Day 2 of week 4, I did the second go at the bodily proportions exercise, and the firs try at 1 minute gestures as well as the 1 and 2 point perspective cubes.Though the bodily proportions could be better, I think they are a bit cleaner than yesterday, and they didn't take as much time because I have done them once before already.I think the gestures went fairly well, I look forward to doing more.lastly is the 1 and 2 point perspective boxes, which went alright enough. I am now going to keep watching the perspective video.
Mike mignola's style is simple but at the same time so hard to replicate. you really need to understand shadows, what and how to simplify them and all that...In case you haven't seen this, heres a video of an analisis to his style, pretty useful!
yeah I know exactly what you mean. It seems easy until you actually sit down and try to do it
second go around at the 1 and 2 point perspective boxes. Yesterday was the first time I has done these digitally but I have done them a bunch in the past on paper. So once I got my act together and made it a bit neater they came out better I think.
Second to last day of week 4, tonight I finished the perspective assignment 1 where you have to draw a room in 1 point perspective. It was very hard, but I think I was able to do it alright because I have a bit of experience with perspective before I started the course, whereas I didn't for things like copying characters. The main mistake I made was that when I took the picture it was slightly off kilter, so instead of everything lining up, in the reference some things like the bed are not converging on the main vanishing point. So I tried my best to work around this in the piece itself. I hope I did alright, and thanks to the people in the Discord server who helped me when I was stuck.
