  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Good day

So, I'm Jesse, from the Philippines, and it's my second time joining a Cubebrush competition (last one was the ArtWar[that was epic ]).

So here's my idea.

An ancient Titan was killed in an epic battle. Its enormous body rested, partly submerge, in the ocean. After many decades, the titanic corpse have gone through many things as it decomposes; it once became a heritage site for ancient beings, a mining spot for rare and precious minerals(Titan armor, Titan bone, etc.), an archipelago rich with many resources being fought over by many nations, and now, it became an overpopulated, "amphibious" city.

The Old world(the Titan's Corpse) is Fantasy while the New World (a cyberpunk-ish city) is Sci Fi so I think I'll be in team Sci Fi

It's actually my first time making a 2D digital art
So, I'm gonna be watching a lot of free tutorials in the net hehe.
I hope I can finish this on time
Thanks!

Here's a 3D previs of my scene, made in Blender.
I might change it after a while.

skeleton is from blendswap, by Shachar. I did a few changes with the skeleton (I removed the sternum and a few bones).

8 days later

So I'm going to make a drastic change to the mood,
instead of making a slum, I think I'm going to create some sort of Utopian-ish modern steampunk-ish (because there will be some flying hot air balloons as transportation.) city that was built on the remains of a titan.
Playing with some lighting.

I'm going to start creating skyscraper designs and print this render soon and start doing my traditional lineart.

Hey jcg... nice to meet you
Btw, your block mesh seems cool now. Personally i really like where the light comes and makes a nice shadow in the foreground. I can't wait to see your paint over version.

PS: if i were u, i would continue the left one in your last post
Keep it up man

Nice scene! I like the lighting too. As for choosing versions - personally I prefer the right one. Keep it up!

Regards
Jonatan

P.S. Nice to see Blender in action - I'm using it too

Hey @hebronppg
Hi @jonatan-moonchild
Nice to meet you fellow artists
Thanks for the feedback!
Looking forward for your entries too

In my opinion, both are nice in their own way.
The first one has a nice composition but the perspective might cover some parts of the city while the second one has nice overview on the city but the foreground of the first pic is better,

so what I did was combine them, a nice foreground from the 1st pic with nice overview from the 2nd pic;

So yeah, I also made some adjustments to the scene, especially the ribs.
The land in the left corner makes the scene looks kinda crowded, for me, hehe
I might move it a little bit to the left to give a little bit more space.
I might also lengthen the broken ribs on the left by a bit.

Now, gonna start making some lineart!

1 month later

Hey, sorry for the late update, I was learning how to paint digitally
here's another (h o pe f u l l y f i n a l ) previs

I think the ribs on my previous post were better, gonna adjust it.
For reallzzz Im gonna print this now and start drawing some lineart haha

Btw...
I was making an artwork in Krita (just for testing) for a while, but it crashes on one point and I can't continue.
Can anyone suggest a free 2d painting software suitable for this competition? except GIMP (my pen tablet can't draw with it for some reason..).

I'm using GIMP and - recently - Clip Studio Paint (which I've bought when they had 50% discount  ). As for GIMP - it works perfectly with my tablet (I'm using WACOM INTUOS), but I work on 2.6 version of GIMP. From what I remember there was a problem with tablets on 2.8 (are you by any chance using this version?). I was trying a few times install version 2.8 but for a few reasons (I don't remember now all of them) I always came back to version 2.6. If you want to try it, I've found this link in my resources (I suppose I've downloaded it from there):
https://download.gimp.org/mirror/pub/gimp/v2.6/
By the way - I have installed version 2.6.11 (and it works perfectly) and I don't have a reason to change it to the last 2.6 release - 2.6.12, but I think you can install that last version (and eventually downgrade to 2.6.11 in case of some problems).

As for other free 2D programs - I've tried Krita (and som other apps which I don't remember) but I always came back to GIMP in version 2.6.

I hope it helps in any way. Good luck!

Regards
Jonatan

P.S. If you experience any problem with downloading (or running) GIMP from site above, I can send you installation file which I have somewhere and which works for me.

I can't recall any free painting software that I liked, but I can recommend you a very cheap yet capable one. This is Paintstorm Studio . It has a very good brush engine (better than photoshop has, I think), convenient user interface and all the required tools to make a good painting. And it cost a mere 19$, a symbolic price for the software of that level.

Lol, I think I missed the Deadline xD
Sorry guys, I was very busy with School because it was finals, I can't find time to finish it.
Hopefully, I will finish this in the future haha
