  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

I do agree, the cheekbone is lighter than would be correct. I pushed the brightness of the upper part a bit to draw the viewers eyes towards where the eyes would be. In general I went fairly loose in terms of values compared to the reference.

That being said, I might have made it a bit to inconsistent when adding the gradient. It's definitely not supposed to stick out =). Thank you !

I like the skull studies. But I think you should darken the gaps in the mouth and the eye sockets.

@gregorya I think it would help the read a litte bit better in some of areas, but in general I tried to keep the shading very light. I want my lines to do the majority of the work for these kinds of sketches. That being said, especially the guy on the bottom could use a touch darker values in the nose and eye cavity. Thank you!

Aside from that, here's a preview on what I am working on. I initially wanted to do a goblin aswell, but as I was working on it I noticed that my imagination of a goblin was way bulkier than what Marc had in mind. So, I decided to push it further and made him really bulky, more like an Orc, while still trying to maintain a somewhat believable anatomy.

Let me know what you think!

I think this is looking great so far, a few things to consider, I cant see exactly how far the eye sockets go back but I think its likely you will need to dig out more material to make room for the actual eyeball, they seem to be pretty shallow even for a human. Many of these orc references I'm looking at have extremely recessed eyes. Another thing to consider if you want to go for that orc feel, most of the models that look good to me have a somewhat feral feel to them. The biggest thing that gives that feel is the shape of the maxilla and how it protrudes. I think if you want to go for a more orcish and feral feel basing the skull off of a monkey skull would be good, I see this Macaque skull has a really prominient maxilla which would give it a bit more animalistic feel. Other than that looking good! Might need a bit more mass on the back end of the cranium but a bit hard to tell from this angle. Also I think the bridge of the nose may be to wide as well, looking at some refrences even people with large noses the bridge skill seems fairly narrow, I think narrowing the bridge and defining the plane of the face where the nose turns into the cheek will give some more clarity. That being said very nice job ! Take it all with a grain of salt I have little to no experience with 3d! Just spitballing!

Hey, thank you for your critique =). For the eyesockets, depth is really not a problem in 3D. I'll just pop the eyeballs in regardless of the depth. Unlike traditional clay, overlaps won't be a problem. Still, it's worthwhile to keep in mind and I might even push them further back than I'd may have done otherwise.

In regards to the other points you mentioned, I played around a bit with your suggestions and agree, that the bridge of the nose should probably toned down a bit. For some reason I just really like pushing the nose of my characters up to a breaking point :D. For the jaw area, I might push it a tiny bit more but I'll likely keep him on the more human side. One reason is that it'd probably be a lot of (re)work to make him into a fully fledged Orc. In that case it's likely faster to just start from scratch. The other reason is, that I envision him more like a brute, but still human. I do have some ideas that I am exited to share once I am done.

@marco_cprn97 Thank you so much!

Calling it done. For some reason I get some weird artefacts when rendering, so here's just the viewport image with a little bit of post processing (and weird aliasing effects):

It's been a while. Going through anatomy 3 drained my will to draw :D. But I did some stuff, here are some recent studies:

OOOH My my! these anatomy studies are AMAZING!! they look so good!!! they look like they can be part of an anatomy artbook or something. dat shading's just so good!

Nice job with those anatomy studies

These turned out so good and I like how you keep the boxes in for the presentation, the sketchiness adds to the appeal to these for sure! Definitely a good social post!

That's some very nice work. I like the line work and the shading.

Wanted to start my post by saying "It's been a while", until I noticed that's how I start most of my posts :D.

Soooo.... it's been a while. I did however continue my artschool journey with the help of @Lockenheim, @holyjosh, Tell Byers and others. Not much else to say, here are my recent works.

Feedback is always appreciated.

Ohhhh wow, that figure painting is amazing and I love the tribal design, what inspired you to make it?

Cheers!

Wooo I love your colors! Also great Characterdesign ^.^ Her left leg looks a bit overbend. I don't think the knee could bend in this direction, but better double check again I'm not sure xD

I love all the horns on her, makes her look dangerous :muscle:
