  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Hey I'm Sheacka or Shea for short. Online I go by these names.

I was actually having a bit of trouble trying to figure out on how to start a blog on here, I do have an art page on Facebook, but it's only friends and Family there, and I know their criticism is a bit lacking on the growing curb. So then what could I share with other artists when I'm not feeling like I measure up to others on this site. So I thought about what I've been working on, and what could use work. One of the first things that came to mind was, maps. Not the link kind the kind for navigation.... well for a full world not a city or a game kind.

So this is my most recent one, I still need to put some markers on it like mountains, and rivers. (note this is just a part of it the full image was too large to upload)

The only problem I have is it working on a globe, in other words, the lands line up in the right spots. I don't have a 3D program to check it, at least at this point in time I don't.

I would post the charcters that I've been working on but after seeing the amazing art here I feel even more so that they aren't where I want them.

Hi, welcome to the forums!
I'm kind of a nerd for maps, so I'm curious what the final image will look like! Did you use some kind of fractal program to lay down the shapes or did you just draw them in?

And don't worry about your art not being 'good enough', we're all here to learn and to get feedback

Thanks, The only art program I have is Paint Studio Pro, I used a burn spray paint brush to "map out" where the land would go, If you take markers out Maps are just abstract. I also like that when you trace it for a map the lines don't have to be clean. I guess I could do a tutorial for it if people really wanted it.

and thanks I know it's better to get feedback that would help to make my work grow.

Alright so these are some of the dresses I made for a character that is in the works. I it was more the clothing that I was focused on here. I was going for a bird like inspiration on them. It was the number ones that I was looking at, for a main outfit.

Using some of the tops and bottoms liked the most gave me these, I used the pose figure in Pro to have a consistent human shape, I know it's kind of cheating. I don't use a whole lot. I do have a color pallet for when I get closer to it being a dress that will work.

I don't know why I didn't think of it before when I shared my map earlier but taking a picture with my camera for some reason makes the image a lot smaller bite wise. So that's what I did, to show the full map. I know that there is a way to shrink things in art programs, Pro's size adjusting isn't the same as Photoshop's and when I "shrink" a canvas it just puts lines over what is already there showing where a Jpeg would save cutting off a part of the image.

Some sketches in no particular order I was kind of iffy on some of the other ones,
Was trying for some movement on this one

Staff design

I realized that I should have used gray background instead of a white one, only because I had one of my headaches. I was originally trying to do in between stages of one of my character's transformations but ended up doing fantasy creatures.

Hey Sheacka! These look pretty cool! Would be very interesting to see some more refined and detailed designs
Keep it up!

Thank you, it's gratifying to hear that from someone I don't know as well, but does know something about art, who offers some constructive criticism over just "it looks good."

cool map! inspires me to try something similar

What @ni0sh said was spot on--There is a lot of fantasy in your sketches, I believe doing some studies of real life people would help you quite a lot! Either way, keep posting

Thank you. Maps are a lot of fun to do because they are abstract. And I agree that it's been a wile since I've had good references, I actually got some odd angles for just that reason when I was visiting my grandmother's place. So they're probably what will be next.

Hey Shea!

How did you come to doing maps? The only time i tryed it was when i was writing a story-it helped me visualise the world and keep the consistency throughout the story. It surprised me it's not an easy undertaking;)

I agree with the comment above, do more refined versions and use reference. It can be with the most common angles if you run out of more exotic ones;)

And don't be shy, post as much as you can, not everyone is on a top level (i can say that at least for myself;)) and even if they were, that's the people that can help you with critique, just show what you're doing!

Looking forward to more of your work!

Well the first time I did a map I was in forth grade where we turned a heart into an island for Valentines Day. But more recently an rp that I co-hosted on Gaiaonline. had royals of lands. And I made a map for it (not the one above) but only of the lands that were the princes and princesses homes. I did the one above is for a story a friend and I are working on.

And thanks I'll keep that in mind for going ahead.

Planning on going over the basics and taking one of the concept classes... I just don't know what one I should do :expressionless: Did go and find me some good poses though so that's..... something.
