  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Nude Figure Drawing Assignment 1-3-4 (combined)

Nude Figure Drawing Assignment 2 Cylinders

Cylinders drawn without rotating the canvas. One of my goals is to be able to draw on my tablet from any angle without rotating the canvas.

Nude Figure Drawing Assignment 5 Proportions

Sorry, Should have decreased the opacity on my brush.

Nude Figure Drawing Assignment 6 Gestures

I think this was my 15th Day (3 days ago) of doing gesture drawing, and the first day that I switch from using pencil and paper to doing them digitally. I still lack the speed and control that I had from the last few days of doing them with my pencil.

I do at least sixty 30 seconds, fifteen 1 minutes and five 2 minutes poses a day.

Hey n00bwolf thanks for commenting on my works, there's not much I can say about yours since they're so flawless already :D. Just wondering why you haven't posted your image combing assignment yet? I'd love to see that too!

Thanks fuulin, your are far to kind  .
I haven't start working on it yet, because I have desperately been trying to figure out what "story" I want to convey besides only trying to complete the exercise , but I promise you that I will post it as soon as I have complete it.

Perspective 1 Assignment 1

The horizon may be off slightly in some of the photos with "2 point Linear perspective" since I have tried to look for visual cues within instead of having to trace the lines outside the image. Also since we are seeing batman from below, this image might be considered 3 points instead, but the vertical closer to the edge of the image does not converge that much.

Perspective 1 Assignment 3 My Room + Viscom 1: Work in Progress

For the last 10 days, I have been doing observations, been measuring and doing orthos, building grids, and transferred squares in perspective in order to see how my eye sees my room in reality compered to drawing it using 1 point perspective. I learned alot.

Besides that I also managed to get it wrong two times before the last attempt, like putting the horizon to low and making my room to wide.
All that is left now is to take it to finished.

@n00bwolf wauw i really like how clean you drew everything and you're absolutely kicking it at both the figure and perspective assignments. Doing those cutouts is pretty tough and you're nailing it. Keep it up =)

Hey n00bwolf! Your perspective and gestures, studies are absolutely amazing. Definitely going to track your progress, keep up the great work!

Thx Ardeey, making those lines takes alot of time and effort, really looking forward to the day when one can make those line in one stroke, without the add from the undo command

Ty faye, your words are for to kind, going to keep an track at your process aswell.

Last Sunday after doing my gestures, I spend the whole day cleaning and reorganizing both the computers and my desk, the biggest change being that I have hide away all my traditional tools to avoid the opportunity to have an additional choice at times when drawing with the tablet feels challenging and I feel tempted to pick up my pen or pencil. Like candy it is best to not have any at home.

Perspective 1 Assignment 3 room update

I originally had plan to finished this one yesterday, but I began working on proko anatomy course and it took a lot more time than I though it would, so it got really late. I will continue to work on this one after taking the 2 point perspective assignment to the same level, then I'm going to finish both while taking some time to study the use of line weight more carefully. I also need to get better at limiting myself and establish smaller goals while working.

Gestures Day 10

Still experimenting a lot, Today I tried to do each shape without lifting my pen. I have done 800 Gestures using the tablet since a began working on them digitally, almost 2000 gestures with the traditional ones. Looking back at my day 1 traditional gestures, I can see that I have done some progress  , I will scan in one page of them as soon as I a hit the 1 month mark.

My new goal is to do 80 gestures a day for the next 365 days, which in the end will result in 29 200 gestures each year.

Hey! Wow, 80 gestures a day sums up to a lot actually. Pretty excited to see your progress in a couple of weeks.

You might scan/upload your gestures with a little bit more contrast, its bit hard to see (at least for me)

Keep it up!

11 days later

Thx Leo, I have decreased the opacity on the brush, hope it will get easier to see.

a few days ago, my external drive got corrupted and I lost most of my files. One positive thing that come out of it is that I no longer have to spend days of trying to reorganize everything after years of collecting stuff.

Perspective 1 Assignment 1: My Room Finished

I will call this one done, I have to get better at limiting myself in the future and clarify what I want get out after doing an exercise like this. I Have learned alot about the Con of Vision and what shortcomings Linear 1 point perspective have compered to my eye.

Nude Figure Drawing Assignment 7: Measuring The figure

My first two tries on using a Sight Seeing approach to lay in the figure. For the next couple of weeks to come, I will not go any further than what I have done here to make sure that I build up good habits and get the overall proportion correct before moving on to refining the figure.

Gesture Day 21 (out of /365)

Yesterday I had done 1600 gestures and made the decision to go back and see how I have done since I began 20 days ago. For the last 5 days there were no signs of me making any progress and there are literally 100's of different problem that needs to be addressed if I should continue to get any better.

As you can see from what I have done today, I Have tried to break things down into smaller parts (Torso, Legs, head, arms), because doing the whole gesture every time will not give me enough time to address all those problems that I have. I need to Correct them one after another, starting with the gesture of the leg and with focus on a more accurate lay-in.

**Perspective 1 Assignment 4: 2 point House **

I decided to continue to do the Con of Vision observations of my house instead of drawing something from imagination which I originally had planed. Happy that I did because I didn't understand is as good as I thought after doing the first assignment of the room. Here are some points that I have learned so far:

-When doing interior 1 or 2 point linear perspective like my room, the ceiling naturally frames the room nicely, making the horizon line appear much higher than what it really is.
-However, from the outside one can much easier observe the true position of the horizon which is in the center of the COV and frame.
-If one which to move the horizon either higher or lower, one much take some liberties with the COV, since that would require one to tilt the head making it into 3 point perspective.
-Transferring scales in 1 and 2 point perspective is very easy, because the grid that I built (75/15 degree) can be used as the base for the object. Something I have to take in to consider when doing it next time.

I will call this one done for now, I ran into a few problems that cost me a lot of time. Will get back do this one sometime in the future and add the last details of the ground. Will also fix the clouds to give them more volume, perspective and delete the part of the wall which can be seen under the roof.

I just want to say that those perspective/gesture practices are dope. Amazing, i was very confused about conic perspective, as well 2 point perspective, but this is really good!!!

Your work is looking amazing men! Your discipline is also really impressive. Keep it up!

You put a crazy amount of effort into your gestures, pretty impressive and it will pay off for sure!

thx Julian, doing those COV studies sorted out much of the troubles and misconceptions that I had from the beginning.

Ty Ardeey, regarding my discipline I sure hope that was the case

Thx Leo, I hope so too.

Gesture (Day 30 of 365)

Starting from today I have increase the amount of gestures to 90 a day, so that I can draw more 2 minutes poses and put what I learn from doing the 30 seconds into practice.
Whenever I start drawing them from the head, the ribcage or torso, different problems arises that needs to be addressed. One of them being the connection of the head to ribcage which will be my focus for the next 10 days.

I minutes Gestures from the first day (around 45 days ago) using pencil and paper. These are the gestures from the last page of that day.

Photoshop for Digital Production Assignment 4: the last two excerices

Here you can see my failed attempt on transforming
her into her older self. Some things that I should keep in mind next time I do an exercise like this.
-Chose an Image with similar lightning
-If my intent is to make her hair turn grey, pick someone who is blond instead.

As for the liquify exercise, I kind of like how it turned out, but the underlying cranium structure is a little to small if it should be a more perfect match.

i don't know how to feel about Emma Watson now... pretty cool photo edit...

Thx Julian, looking back I guess it turned out alright after all

Last weekend, I spend some time trying to clarify what my goals are, and I have made the decision that my focus is going to be on the figure.

Photoshop for Digital Production 1: Assignment 3 Combaining Images

With that goal in mind I sat a time limit for finding both the photographs and when I should have finished the assignment. I tried my best to find pictures that would match the foreground element, The perspective is alright but the different images combine those not really fit in terms of architectural details.

At last, I have done all the assignments at least one time for term 1. I will also stick with the original plan to complete all the assignments of each term before the next one begins, so that I can focus solely on each term and avoid having more things pile up to finished as each new term begins.

For now on I will update this threat every 10 days with gesture drawings until I have finished a whole year of doing them, after that I will see if I should continue to post them online. I might also update some of the exercises like longer figures studies when there I been some kind progress in term of skills.

Merry Christmas to everyone here

Gestures Day 40 of 365 (3200 + 50 Gestures done)

I did 90 gestures for about 5 days straight until I revalued what I have done so far. I made the decision to go back doing the original number of 80, but lower the number of 30 sec gestures to 40, and increased the other ones (1 and 2min) to 20 each.

I also made the decision to split it into two session of 40 gestures a day. Because my brain simply got to tired after one hour of gestures and I began to get to sloppy with each line that I put down.

After having done the more skeleton like approach again, after several weeks of using a more shape based approach for one of the session. I realized how weak my knowledge of the skeleton is. So anatomical studies of the skeleton as the basic for making gestures will be my focus for the next 10 days.
