  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?

  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations.To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color.The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character.My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell.You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs.This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Hello everyone,

My name is Tublis (Toulee), but you can just call me Tub. I am 29 years old, and will be turning 30 next month unfortunately. Every year I get older and everyone else seem to get younger.

I love to sleep and I sleep a lot. As I say, the perfect place to :sleeping: is under the shade of a :deciduous_tree: on a wooden bridge next to a running river on a cool and :sunny: day. Yes, I have experienced it and it was pure bliss. If heaven existed on Earth that was heaven for me. Surprisingly, I didn't get maul by a bear :smiley: . That's how I got my nickname sleepingTub.

I'm more of a writer, or storyteller, than an artist, but I have always done both for as long as I can remember. To put it simply, I draw what I can't write and then I put that drawing into words. It's part of my writing process.

My art experience is somewhere between beginner and intermediate level, but let's just say I'm a beginner. I took art classes throughout my highschool and college years, but never took art seriously. Art to me was a way to escape from my studies and academics thus my art skills are not that great because I never saw the need to produce GREAT art. Just throw a little paint here and there, and maybe my handprint right here! By the way I'm horrible with colors. As long as I could understand what I was trying to convey in my art I was happy with it.

My specialty as I say, is doing sketches in pen or pencil on paper with my horrendous skills, however, recently I've gotten into digital drawing when a friend gave me their old tablet display they no longer wanted. It took me awhile to get used to digital drawing (I'm still getting used to it), but after a month or two of toying with it I've gotten a little better at it. I mainly struggle with hand-eye coordination as well as pressure control. It sure gets frustrating at times when the lines don't come out how I want them too. Sometimes I wonder why I put myself through all that frustration when I can just do it traditionally with less stress haha.

I joined Marc's ART School program a month ago in hopes to improve my drawing skills. Hopefully in the long run I will improve a lot. If I don't that is ok as well. Some improvement is better than none.

My life goal and dream for the future is to publish my writing and stories with original artworks done by me. One day I'll get there!

I do work fulltime plus overtime so I don't have much time to practice. What little time I do have free I split it between writing, drawing, sleeping, and well life of course.

I created this topic mainly to keep track of my progress with the program. I'll try to post at the end of every month with the assignments I've done as well as my own works of art (if I'm not too embarrassed). Hopefully, it helps keep me on track when I begin to wander off to who knows where haha.

Figure drawing pracitce.

How long do you suggest I take to study each lesson?

I figured 2 weeks for each lesson so that's about a month or two for each term depending how fast I grasp each lesson. Let me know what you all think.

As of lately I've been focusing solely on gesture drawing and figure drawing trying to get my proportions correct and what not.

Some drawings I did using references two months ago when I first started digital drawing. It was just me messing around when I was learning CSP as well getting used to drawinig digitally.

Yep I had no clue what I was doing I was just going with the flow haha.

Welcome @sleepingTub, looks like your off to a good start! Can’t wait to see how far you’ll go. In terms of time dedicated I think 2 weeks per lesson is a good work frame. I’m a little more loose with mine, spending more time on things I want to focus on and naturally there are some topics that you will go through faster than others. Best thing to do is to stick with it and enjoy yourself. Good luck.

It finally clicked for me when I watched these two videos close to the end of April. Definitely go check it out if you are struggling with gesture drawing beacuse it helped me a lot.

Never use standard proportions! Except when...

I definitely recommend watching his other videos too, the guy is awesome.

What I learned was...
1. Don't worry too much about proportions with gesture drawing (which I totally was when I first started). Worry about proportion when you are doing figure drawing!!!
2. Look for them CURVES and JUST DRAW. The proportions will fix itself haha. My proportion is still not all that great but my gesture drawing is definitely better than when I first started.
3. Hide the timer so it doesn't stress you out :smile:

Will be starting the perspective lesson for term 1 this coming weekend when I have time, and I hate perspective so we'll see how it goes.

I also really hated gesture drawing at first too. I was like why am I wasting my time drawing a bunch of ugly stick figures but now I quite enjoy it. I finally get what it means to be loose and to just let it flow and spill all over haha.

Awesome improvement in just 1 month. Your curves look great. I find that just doing a few gesture drawings really loosens you up, and it’s so quick to do. Keep up the good work!
